So the other day I wore my Superman Obama shirt on campus, and you would have thought I killed someone. I knew that it would be a big step to wear it on my campus, but what’s the point of having a shirt if you can’t wear it? I’m going to refer to the Tee as “THE shirt” from now on. Now my mom sent me “THE shirt” as a present, and I have to admit that it sat around my dorm for a couple weeks before I felt like I could wear it in public. I’m not a coward or anything close to one, but I do live on a campus that offers a “College Republicans” club with no opposition, and I do live on a campus where I witnessed various death threats and crying females after PRESIDENT Obama was elected.
Naturally I was a bit hesitant (I usually refrain from starting riots… its just me, I can’t help it…) but wearing it sure was an adventure. I knew that I would get a lot of feedback, but I definitely didn’t expect one of the cafeteria ladies to yell across the room “WHY ARE YOU WEARING THAT SHIRT?! OBAMA IS THE DEVIL!” That had to be the funniest thing I have heard in a long time. The rest of the cafeteria staff was more than happy to see my SuperObama Tee. Long story short, I couldn’t handle wearing “THE shirt” for more than three hours, so yes I did change halfway through the day. I will go down in history for wearing the only Obama shirt on my campus with a depiction of him being awesome instead of the spawn of Satan. Keep the love alive….
For the record, you might have been the only one to get the outlandish reaction you did from THE shirt, but I have also worn an Obama shirt on campus. It's an interesting experiment if anything, I definitely got a lot of stares. Way to go for stepping out and causing the scene. This campus needs some bold action.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that! just go move to another college! That kind of attitudes can seriously harm your performance as a student... It's a nice thing that your mom decided to buy a gift for you, so don't let other people ruin that. I'm serios with this advice.
ReplyDeleteI went to a big Ten school & experienced a few "incidents" of sorts...the funny thing is, it made me stronger. Br Proud & wear your shirt whenever you want! As soon as we have t-shirt dy at work, I'm busting mine out!!!
ReplyDeleteMitzi!! Yeah that day was definitely one to remember lol. I think I handled it pretty well :). We need to plan a day to wear OUR SHIRTS together so we can see what we can really accomplish :p.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to keep sporting my momma's gift proud :) and I'm looking forward to hearing about some reactions from some other environments lol
Oh my goodness, I want one! Please! x
ReplyDeleteP.s. Are you a model? :)
ReplyDeleteI must say it's been a while since I went to college :o) but the reactions you got seem very severe. Definitely don't ditch the t-shirt. It's not a Fortune 500 company you're attending after all.
ReplyDeleteGreat post..how are you ?
ReplyDeleteHey Sky
ReplyDeleteThanks for becoming one of my followers, I totally appreciate it. Now to the T-shirt it’s freaking awesome. I wish I could find one down here in Canada to wear. Our PM is an idiot and I wish we had a man like Obama representing our country. You stay cool and wear that T with pride because I would do the same and f**k what others think. Thanks again.
Peace
JB
haha....great post....!
ReplyDeleteits fun experiment in college with such stuff...!
But honestly i think you should not have changed THE shirt :P
to hell with what others think....!
OMFG. I'm not American but I want a shirt like that.
ReplyDeleteThat's fucking awesome.
I teach at a HBCU and the Obama shirts that I've seen have been AWESOME! Barak "The shirt!"
ReplyDeleteHahaha, most of my school are Democrats and those that aren't don't share so wearing that shirt would probably make me a mini-celebrity on campus. Now I want that shirt lol!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post. If I was still in school, I would've done the same thing. More power to you.
ReplyDelete....you gotta rock the shirt ALL day fam!
ReplyDeletenow thats a hot shirt
